![]() Gas dryer not heating? If your dryer displays an error code, that is the easiest way to determine the failed component, if not then lets get right to it, take off the access panels and look at the gas valve, is the igniter lighting? if not take a electrical pen tester or Multi meter and check the ends of the wire leads going to the igniter to check for power, if you have power then you have a bad igniter, if not then start testing the sensors. These sensors usually consist of a high limit thermostat, thermal cut out, radiant sensor, Thermal fuse, thermistor and damp sensor. to check each one of these you need to check the continuity of each sensor with your meter. Some of them you need to check the ohms ( Thermistor and Coils see chart below for values). Also do not forget to clean out the dryer venting system of any lint which can cause the thermal fuse to malfunction. When you have continuity you usually have a good sensor, if a sensor has no continuity when there is no heat then the sensor is generally bad or stuck in the open position therefor breaking the closed circuit and shutting down operation of heating the dryer. If you do not have a multi-meter, you can also use jumper wires to bypass the sensors, just clip each end where the wires connect to the sensor tabs each individually 1 by 1 with the power cord unplugged, then turn dryer on to see if igniter lights, thus eliminating which sensor it is . Flame come on only for a few seconds? If you do not have a bad or weak sensor then we recommend replacing the coils on top of the gas valve or the thermistor, this is a common problem usually from natural wear and tear or lint build up in the exhaust vent.
